Day 295 Not Either-Or
His master replied, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!" Matthew 25:21
Some would describe the first two servants in this parable as “successful.” Jesus, however, described them as “faithful.” Are the two completely separate? Not necessarily. Faithfulness sometimes brings earthly success, but more importantly, faithfulness brings eternal reward. Does that mean we should work to be successful? You bet!
But as we work toward success, we should do it faithfully to Jesus' call on our lives--His call to excellence and to invest in his work, whatever we have been given...gifts, talents, time, energy, hope. When we are faithful, He can bring about whatever type of success He desires in our lives.
